Much more than a traditional cottage nestled on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Sun Hill Cottage is a stylish home with plenty of features for a perfect family getaway.

One of three holiday cottages at Sun Hill Farm, wooden beams and areas of exposed original stonework sit alongside modern bedrooms and bathrooms. Outside on the terrace find the garden hot tub, and families will enjoy the dining table which doubles as a pool table. There is plenty to enjoy for all ages. In the grounds of Sun Hill Farm is a working race yard, and the training ground can be seen from the garden of Sun Hill Cottage. It is easy to get out for a day in the nearby towns of Leyburn and Middleham, where you can explore Yorkshire’s countryside, or simply enjoy the idyllic views as you feast at a local café or restaurant.

Sun Hill Cottage is our dog-friendly holiday cottage for up to six guests located at Sun Hill Farm. This beautiful location sits alongside a well-known racehorse training establishment in Constable Burton, near the market town Leyburn, North Yorkshire. If you need some extra room, check out The Palins , a cosy one bed bolthole located at Sun Hill Farm, ideal for two extra guests.

This traditional cottage is full of character with solid oak beams, stone walls and arches to add to the period appeal. It pairs perfectly with the contemporary bedrooms and bathrooms. This is the perfect country escape for those wanting a cottage with a hot tub, and a glorious ’gateway’ to the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park.

 

Step Inside

There is a farmhouse-style kitchen with a traditional Aga, breakfast island and a spacious dining area, along with everything you could need for a self-catering holiday in Yorkshire. We can even arrange a private chef to cook for your group, so you can relax and make your stay more memorable. At the heart of the home, through the archway from the kitchen, is the cosy living area with comfy seating. Curl up with a glass of wine and a book after a day exploring the rolling hills beyond, firing up the log-burning stove. In summer months, open up the French doors and head out to the enclosed garden. These doors lead out to the hot tub.

When dinner is over, enjoy a fun evening and turn over the large dining table into a pool table. This cottage with a games room is perfect to keep the kids, and the big kids, entertained. You can look at additional activitiesduring your stay such as stable tours, private dine-in chefs and treatments here.

 

Bedrooms

This holiday home has three stylish double bedrooms. Two bedrooms are on the first floor, each with their en-suite bathrooms. The larger room has a super-king zip-and-link bed that can conveniently be split into a twin bed. The master bedroom has a king bed. This holiday cottage has a ground-floor bedroom, making it a more accessible property for guests with reduced mobility. The bedroom has an en-suite wet room with a shower, and the bed can be set up as a super-king or as two single beds. The room is accessed via a step down from the dining area.

 

Outside

French doors from the living area lead out to the patio and garden. Sitting close to the house is a jacuzzi-style hot tub, with stunning views over the majestic rolling countryside. Lounge in the rattan garden chairs around the large outdoor table and enjoy the views across the paddocks which form part of the training facilities at Sun Hill Racing. You can even see racehorses working on the gallops from the garden whilst you enjoy an al fresco breakfast or lunch cooked on the gas BBQ.

About Sun Hill Farm

The cottage neighbours the five-bedroom Sun Hill Farmhouse and The Palins which has one bedroom, in the grounds of Sun Hill Farm. All three can be combined at Sun Hill Farm for large group accommodation for eighteen guests.

Valley View is a three-bedroom luxury lodge also located in the grounds of Sun Hill Farm, with exclusive availability between November and February.

Sun Hill Farm has a working race yard in the grounds, with horses training in the surrounding fields. Dogs must be kept on leads beyond the private gardens of the house.

 

Access & Layout

Sun Hill Cottage is entered through the hallway from a gravel driveway. There are three steps down from the kitchen into the sitting room. The French doors from the sitting room open out, via one step, onto the patio and garden. There is a ground-floor cloakroom. The garden is enclosed with a wall and a fence with netting around the bottom. Owners of lively dogs should be watchful, so dogs do not try to get through this into the paddocks beyond. ​Sun Hill Cottage is a more accessible property for guests with reduced mobility having a ground-floor bedroom with a wet room. There is a step down into the bedroom from the dining area. Upstairs are two bedrooms, both with en-suite bathroom facilities. Two bedrooms in the house can be split from a super-king layout to be twin beds.
