Spindrifter is a luxury lodge with a hot tub nestled within the picturesque grounds of Sun Hill Lodges near Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales. From the rustic living area indoors to the bubbling outdoor hot tub with a fire pit, dining area and private pond, this is a perfect rural retreat for two. The added charm of this woodland luxury lodge is the gallops running beyond the garden from the racehorse trainer based nearby. Experience the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales with the popular market towns of Leyburn, Middleham and Bedale close by. Retire to your lodge where a roaring log burner awaits, and a bubbling hot tub on the large private decking will soothe aching muscles after a day’s exploring. This luxury lodge in Yorkshire offers a perfect blend of traditional log cabin living and modern comforts. Wooden beams throughout the log cabin contrast with soft fabrics to create a rustic charm. Spindrifter offers an open-plan living area with comfortable seating to enjoy a cosy evening in front of the log-burning stove whilst indulging in a movie marathon on the large Smart TV. Or simply sit back and admire the picturesque scenery, with uninterrupted views of the rolling hillsides towards Penn Hill and beyond. This peaceful setting plays a major part in the overall experience at Sun Hill Lodges. Prepare a delicious home-cooked meal in the well-equipped kitchen with everything you may need to cook up a storm. Spindrifter is a cosy one-bedroom luxury lodge, perfect for couples looking for somewhere extra special to stay for a weekend away or for a mini-moon in the UK. A majestic king-sized bed boasts supreme comfort. Adjoining is a large contemporary bathroom with a walk-in shower. Open the large glass patio doors from your bedroom and enjoy your morning coffee outside wrapped in the fluffy towelling robes provided, or spend a lazy morning in bed admiring the awakening of nature.

 

OUTDOORS

A stunning feature at Spindrifter lodge is the large enclosed garden offering plenty of privacy. Open the double doors, let in the fresh Yorkshire air and admire the rolling hills and the abundance of wildlife that passes through the pond. Nestled on the hill, with a glass of something special in hand, appreciate the scenic vista with views towards the Yorkshire Dales and Penn Hill from the luxury of your lodge with a private hot tub. A gas barbecue sits on the covered patio, and here you can eat al fresco, sunbathe in peace, or gaze at the stars with the fire pit lit on a cooler evening.

 

ABOUT SUN HILL

This beautiful lodge is situated within the grounds of Sun Hill Lodges near Leyburn, North Yorkshire. This provides an opportunity for the dedicated team at Sun Hill to enhance your stay. Spindrifter was our very first lodge at Sun Hill, and since then, we’ve grown to offer the entire collection with bookings now open for arrivals from 2026 with us at Sun Hill Lodges. The properties at Sun Hill Farm are located on the grounds of racehorse trainer Ann Duffield and her husband, legendary jockey George Duffield MBE. Stable tours can be arranged on request. The beauty of this woodland lodge is the gallops that run alongside it, which are used actively to train racehorses. The lodge is set away from the stables though so there’s privacy in the grounds of your self-catering hideaway. PRACTICALITIES

There is free wi-fi throughout the holiday home. On arrival, you will find a locally sourced welcome hamper. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering accommodation, with an oven, microwave, hob and microwave. The barbecue outside is gas. A starter pack for the log burner includes logs and firelighters, and more can be purchased during your stay. The stay includes high-quality bed linen, towels, bathrobes and a small selection of toiletries. Families can request a travel cot and a high chair for an infant in advance. Please note there is no washing machine or dryer. Up to two dogs are welcome in this luxury lodge with a hot tub in Yorkshire; it is not well suited to more than one large dog. Please note rgw garden is fully enclosed (fenced), however not wired to prevent small dogs escaping. Please keep an eye on those excitable pooches in particular as it is not escape proof.

 

ACCESS & LAYOUT

On your own private driveway, there is space for two cars. A ramp and steps lead up to the lodge which then has flagstones surrounding it. There is one small step to get inside, then the lodge is all on one level and so is well suited to guests with limited mobility. This is accommodation with a ground floor bedroom and a walk-in step-free shower.

 

This lodge is named after the legendary "Spindrifter" who was ridden in all but one of his victories by Ann's husband, George Duffield, he remains in the Guiness book of world records after his amazing record breaking 13 victories in his first racing season.
